About Vaasa:

Vaasa is approximately the same size as Bellingham. It dwells on the west coast of Finland and was established in 1606. Seventy percent of the population speaks Finnish, while the other thirty percent retain Swedish as their mother tongue.

The Sister City Relationship

The Mout Baker Toppers, a local barber shop singing group visited Finland many times over the years, participating in an annual choir festival. Then, in 2005, Bellingham’s Mayor Admudsen visited Vaasa with sister city representative, Tapio Holma. 40 yr Party The Vaasa Orchestra reciprocated with a visit to Bellingham, followed by a visit from concert pianist, Janne Mertanen and the Vaasa Police Choir in 2007. Currently Western Washington University hosts Vaasa students on its campus.
